Tips On Preventing Kids Soccer Drills Mistakes

March 9th, 2010

Kids Soccer Drills

In kids soccer drills, it’s a known fact that the coach’s faults bring the teams to a point, from where it’s near impossible to get back on to the winning track. Yes, it is true. A good number of you might be wondering what on earth could be so big to get the team on a losing track. Well, let it be known that there are many.

To take steps pertaining to soccer drills for kids, be very alert and calculative. It’s very important for you know the kid’s psychology. Communicate with them in a way that suits their age level. But unfortunately, many coaches are unprepared to adjust to it. They simply close their eyes to the dissimilarity between teaching adult players and kids.

So here it is; top mistakes or sins as I call them that coaches make and put their teams on a losing track.

1. A lot of them consider their jobs as casual work. They do not plan the sessions, prepare the drills, or bother about reaching the field in time. Such behavior is bad and also has the potential to sadden the kids. Kids tend to be very serious about soccer and you should too. Put together the youth soccer drills ahead of time. If you need certain equipment to carry out the drills, arrange it before hand.

Always be prompt. Don’t be the one to reach the field later than the kids. Actually, be there when the kids get there. It provides you some spare time to review the drills and organize things better.

2. When coaches give instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so carried away by their emotions that they keep going on and on. Can you believe how boring that can be? You must appreciate that kids are more eager to play than hearing long speeches. Keep your words of wisdom brief and straight forward. Use this opportunity to talk to the kids about the strategy and styles that the kids should learn.

Also, do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If you have observed anything that needs to be corrected, note it and discuss it after the drill. Also, observe the kids from outside when they are playing.

3. Some coaches tend to get emotional or abusive with the players. In soccer drills for youth, both the traits are self-destructive. It may prove counter productive to show your emotions on the field. It is imperative that the kids will make mistakes. Do not forget that they are children. Never take things very critically and make it an excuse to get bad with the players.

In such a situation, you disengage the kids from the game and also create problems for yourself. Soccer is a game of the mind. Help the kids understand this so that they get inspired by you.

Just keep yourself aloof from these problems in kids soccer drills. If you are looking for tips on how coaches should handle the kids, subscribe to our youth soccer coaching community. You will be surprised by how big an improvement you can make by your decision.

Kids Soccer Drills: Killer Tips For Coaches

March 6th, 2010

Kids Soccer Drills

Quite possible you may not agree with me on this, but still, lend me your ears. In kids soccer drills, the methods used to train small kids and older players are significantly different. It is necessary as the young players are somewhat aware of their likes and dislikes, whereas kids just begin to get a hang of many new things.

Yet, in soccer drills for kids, many techniques can be applied for developing great soccer players. Always remember that kids would love to play the game only for so long as it interests them. They’ll begin to avoid playing soccer in case they don’t like it. They get under pressure to quit the sport. So have patience and don’t make them feel obligated to play.

Most of the kid’s play the game because their parents want them to while others plays for sheer enjoyment. In either case, kids don’t consider any amount of rewards or trophies for playing the game. In kids soccer drills, coaches have a tendency to overlook this aspect. They compel the kids to realize the goals set for them in terms of their stamina, skills, and attitude towards the game at all costs. It directly affects the kids and their confidence is shaken in the game.

Youth Soccer Drills

It’s natural for any new coach designing soccer drills for youth to feel a little perturbed initially. The reason could the indiscipline of the players in the game. But, it’s all right. It may take a little while but they would certainly understand the importance of punctuality and teamwork. They will also understand that only when they respect others will they get respect.

Here, it is crucial that kids in youth soccer drills are acquainted with new regulations. This is due to the fact that they may not know them and be slow at learning about them. Also, ensure that you involve everyone and take their view points before taking important decisions. This makes it easy for the kids to accept and follow the required changes.

As the coach, it is also mandatory for you to instill some moral teachings to the kids. For this, you should observe the kids performance individually. The coach should ensure that the kid gets sufficient time in field and their hard work is acknowledged. In addition to this, make sure to reprimand those as well who create a ruckus and deviate from the set norms.
This makes the boys responsible for their actions.

However, be particular about it. Do not be cruel to the kid. He should not be left alone to himself. As an example, you can keep the boy away from a training session as a punishment.

Now, you are ready to convert these kids soccer drills into action. As you make these drills a reality, you can also enroll for our youth soccer coaching community. You will benefit from an ever-growing community as well as wealth of resources on youth soccer coaching.

Kids Soccer Drills: Things You Must Know

March 3rd, 2010

Kids Soccer Drills

It’s sad to know that people fail to appreciate the importance of warming up in kids soccer drills. Being a coach, I’d let it be known that warming up is not only compulsory but is even critical to begin the day’s play at a brighter and healthier note. This issue is conveniently ignored as unimportant by the coaches in youth soccer drills. This has a direct affect on the health of players in form of injuries while practicing.

In this article, you’ll find some useful tips on warming up the players. Teach the kids to include all the body movements that allow all muscles in the body to get worked up. This is the right way to wake up the entire nervous system. Rigorous sessions can result in stiffness and cramping of the muscles.

Tip 1: In this make the players go for a light 5 to 7 minute jog. A few minutes of jogging and then moving on to sprinting is the best proposition. Check that the pulse rate in this reaches 120 beats per minute. Yet, the rate should increase gradually. This should be followed by players moving their legs backward and forward for approximately 10 minutes each. Finally, over 20 yards, make them stretch actively.

Tip 2: But make sure that this active stretching over 20 yards goes with a few warm up exercises of its own. For example, have your players skip back and forth. You can also teach them cross stepping. They must also be taught high-knee carioca. These must be carried out just like sprinting.

Youth Soccer Drills

In soccer drills for kids, an extremely helpful warm up drill is backward running. Still, in order to perform it, the proper way to do it is to jerk up the heels to the butt. It is a little hard to practice this but it is the only correct way of doing it.

Tip 3: In kids soccer drills, there are many other warming up exercises that increase the stamina to perform in the practice sessions. You can make the players skip with loops or swings. These give an extra dimension to the skipping exercises. The players can also be told to do cross-over bounce. Quick Hip Swings, though it’s slightly complex, can also be used to warm up the body intensively as it’s a very valuable and tested means.

After that, have the players do the long shuffles along with twists halfway. Tell the players to practice backward and forward leg swings. It’s a very efficient activity and helps in toning the body. In the same way, high leg forwards and backwards is also very effective.

Tip 4: Stretch adequately and complete it in the approved manner. For the legs, stretch hinging works the best. Ensure that every kid works out hamstring, quadriceps, groin and calf without exceptions. Stretching not only prevents injury but also increases the range of the muscles.

Also ensure that in soccer drills for youth, kids are discouraged from overdoing anything. They tend to get carried over by enthusiasm and injure themselves unnecessarily.

Now that you are armed with this information about kids soccer drills, ensure that kids do warm ups before performing the drills. You’ll find lots and lots of articles and news like this on our youth soccer coaching community. Become a member today and benefit from it.
