To take steps pertaining to soccer drills for kids, be very alert and calculative. It’s very important for you know the kid’s psychology. Communicate with them in a way that suits their age level. But unfortunately, many coaches are unprepared to adjust to it. They simply close their eyes to the dissimilarity between teaching adult players and kids.

So here it is; top mistakes or sins as I call them that coaches make and put their teams on a losing track.

1. A lot of them consider their jobs as casual work. They do not plan the sessions, prepare the drills, or bother about reaching the field in time. Such behavior is bad and also has the potential to sadden the kids. Kids tend to be very serious about soccer and you should too. Put together the youth soccer drills ahead of time. Always be prompt. Don’t be the one to reach the field later than the kids. Actually, be there when the kids get there. It provides you some spare time to review the drills and organize things better.

2. When coaches give instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so carried away by their emotions that they keep going on and on. Can you believe how boring that can be? You must appreciate that kids are more eager to play than hearing long speeches. Keep your words of wisdom brief and straight forward. Use this opportunity to talk to the kids about the strategy and styles that the kids should learn.

Also, do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If you have observed anything that needs to be corrected, note it and discuss it after the drill. Also, observe the kids from outside when they are playing.

3. Some coaches tend to get emotional or abusive with the players. In soccer drills for youth, both the traits are self-destructive. It may prove counter productive to show your emotions on the field. It is imperative that the kids will make mistakes. Do not forget that they are children. Never take things very critically and make it an excuse to get bad with the players.

In such a situation, you disengage the kids from the game and also create problems for yourself. Soccer is a game of the mind. Help the kids understand this so that they get inspired by you.
